Learning Lab

What is the Learning Lab?  The Learning Lab is an on-site child care and preschool facility that is an integral part of the high school early childhood curriculum.  We host a preschool program and extended care program for those using our sister program, which is a district entity, the A.M. and P.M. 4K program. The children attending the Learning Lab are between 3 and 5 years of age be the 1st of September of each school year.

High school students enrolled in Infant and Toddler, Introduction to Early Childhood Professions, and the Early Childhood Practicum classes in the Family and Consumer Science program have the opportunity to gain field experience in early childhood education.  The early childhood practicum is supported by and coordinated with the high school early childhood curriculum standards. These students take on multiple roles in working with the children of the Learning Lab.

Mission: To provide an exemplary early childhood education lab school setting for preschool ages. Our purpose is for high school students in Family and Consumer Science classes to gain field experience in practical application, implementation, and evaluation of early childhood education techniques and strategies

Enrolling a Preschool/ Extended Care Student: The Unified School District staff will have priority in enrolling their child/children in the Early Childhood Learning Lab. They may choose to enroll in preschool program and/or extended care. The remaining openings will be granted to those individuals from the public at large to enroll their child/children in one of the preschool programs that are being offered. Those families who are currently enrolled in the program will have preference. Registration will be accepted on a first come first serve basis from the community. All children must be potty trained to attend the Learning Lab unless there is a medical reason he/she is unable to achieve that skill. Pull-ups should not be worn to school.

2022-2023 Registration will open in January of 2022 for the preschool and extended care portion only. The 4K program will have a separate registration that will be run by the district. Please see the 4K website for that information.

2022-2023 Registration is now open. Complete this form to enroll your child.
