Yes. Students are not allowed to practice or play a sport without a up-to-date physical examination.  An exam form must be on file with the high school athletics office prior to participation. A physical exam taken April 1st and thereafter is valid for the following two school years; a physical exam taken before April 1st is valid only for the remainder of that school year and the following school year. 

For example, a physical exam performed May 1, 2023, would be valid for the 2023-24 and 2024-25 school years.

The physical exam must bear the signature or signature stamp of a physician, or the signature of a Physician’s Assistant (PA) or Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber (APNP).

Physical paperwork is kept on file throughout the year, so only one exam is required even if athletes play more than one sport a year. It is highly recommended to keep a copy at home as a backup. Forms are available on the DPHS web site and in the main office.

In late spring, 8th graders at De Pere Middle School are given a survey to indicate which high school sports they are interested in. Coaches will contact these potential athletes during the summer about tryouts and practice dates, including fall sports.

Students can also reach out to coaches directly. Go to the Sports link in the left side menu and then click on a specific sport, where you will see a link to email the head coach. 

During the school year, coaches will make announcements prior to the start of the winter and spring seasons about preseason meetings and sign-up dates. 

Due to the large enrollment at DPHS, tryouts often are necessary for some WIAA sports, including boys and girls soccer, girls volleyball, and boys and girls basketball. 

There are teams specifically for freshmen in football, volleyball, boys basketball, baseball, and softball. Some freshmen are selected to be on Junior Varsity or Varsity teams. 

Students who are not successful in a tryout for one sport are encouraged to consider another sport in the same season and to contact the coach immediately.

Everyone does not make the team. Every level and every team has specific rules, policies and expectations. Check with your coach for specifics. 

Attendance at practices and games is mandatory.

Playing time is not equal. 

All student-athletes in WIAA sports and dance team are required to pay a yearly participation fee of $36.50. This fee is paid once per school year regardless of the number of sports a student participates in during the year. 

The fee is due by September 15th for students in fall sports. Students who plan to participate in a winter and/or spring sport can pay the fee at that time, as well. It can be paid online along with other school fees.

School uniforms are supplied for most teams that compete in a WIAA-sponsored sport. Students will be billed for uniform items that are assigned to them but are not returned at the end of the season.

Depending on the sport and the size of the teams and distance, students are transported by bus, rental van or in pre-approved coaches' vehicles.

A parent/guardian must complete a travel release form stating the reason for the student not riding the bus and agreeing to take responsibility for transporting the student. It's preferred that a parent/guardian complete the Travel Release Google Form at least one day in advance of the event.

Forms also are available in the high school athletics office and on the Athletics Home Page. 

DPHS charges admission for football, boys & girls soccer, volleyball, boys & girls basketball, boys hockey, and wrestling events, as well as multi-team invitationals such as track and field. Prices are $5 for adults and $3 for students.

De Pere utilizes GoFan all-digital ticketing for annual athletics passes and individual game tickets. Click on the Digital Ticketing link in the menu on this page for more information. 

Complimentary senior citizen passes are available in the high school office for ages 62 and older. These passes allow free admission to all home and away Fox River Classic Conference games. 

No passes are accepted at WIAA tournament events. WIAA tournament ticket costs vary depending on the sport and level of event (regional, sectional, state). The WIAA sells digital tickets via GoFan.
