Career exploration should start by asking yourself three questions:  

• Who am I?

• What am I good at?

• How do I get where I want to go? 

The best ways to find the answers to these questions is by:

• Taking a variety of classes across the curriculum

• Volunteering

• Participating in extracurricular activities (in and outside of school)

• Job shadowing

• Having a job/employment

• Being open to possibilities/experiences

Xello is career software program available to DPHS students. The site provides up-to-date career information, interest inventories, college searches, the opportunity to create a career portfolio, etc. This site can be accessed on the High School homepage under the Student tab. You can also check out other career exploration sites, including:

Any student who is considering playing a NCCA sport at either Division I or II must register with the NCAA Clearinghouse. Talk with your counselor and coach for more specific information. Additianal resources include:

Junior Planning conferences take place in the spring. A conference typically last 45-50 minutes and it is an opportunity for post-secondary planning. View the video below for more details.

Scholarships

Scholarships can be found by logging into your Xello account and clicking on the College Planning tab.  Scholarships get posted as they come in, so keep checking periodically. You also may find scholarships through civic and religious groups, fraternal organizations, or you and/or your parent(s) place of employment.

Institutional scholarships at the colleges you are considering may also be a source.

FAFSA

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is a federally run program that assists students in paying for their post-secondary education and provides opportunity and access to higher education.

• Why fill out the FAFSA? Scholarship applications may require

• FAFSA used for more than just federal aid –also state and institutional funding

• Won’t know what eligible for until submitted –gives you a baseline to plan for future years
  Insurance policy if you need financial aid in future years –must reapply each year.
